- Volunteer for Project Homeless Connect on Nov. 17, 2011. Serve as a team leader to help connect adults experiencing homelessness to services which will help them to take the next step to stability. Recruit others to join you in this effort. Collect toiletries for distribution at the event. Learn more.
- Advocate for the creation or expansion of well-managed housing options for people with low incomes in Greater Richmond.
- Fund programs that have good and consistent results for people in crisis.
- Call Homeward to invite a speaker to your civic, neighborhood, business or religious gatherings to give an update on homelessness in Greater Richmond. (804-343-2045)
- Volunteer your time or talent with organizations that serve people in crisis.

- 648-4177 Central Intake Service for Single Adults – comprehensive intake and referral for area shelter programs and related services to meet the needs of adult men and women unaccompanied by children.
- 291-9083 Central Intake Service for Families – comprehensive intake and referral for area shelter programs and related services to meet the needs of families.
- 211 Virginia – always toll free call for utilities/rent/mortgage and other human and social service assistance (Call “211” – just like dialing 411)
- Please do not give money to panhandlers. Some panhandlers on the streets are not homeless. It is much better to give your money to programs that help people in crisis return to stability. Learn more.
- Show compassion to people who are experiencing homelessness. Most men, women and children who fall into the crisis of homelessness are traumatized and embarrassed by the experience. Like you, they never thought it would happen to them.
- Recognize that change is difficult, but possible. Think about how you can be an agent of change in our community.
