What is Your Role in Solving Homelessness?

  • If you are a member of a congregation, we hope that you spread the word that our region is responding to the crisis of homelessness, and that there are many existing outlets for ministry, volunteer assistance and financial support.
  • If you are a policy maker, we hope that you use the information and research available in the State of Homelessness Report and the Ten Year Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness to be a change agent on issues that have heretofore exacerbated the crisis of homelessness, such as inadequate local, regional and national strategies to address mental health, substance abuse and housing for people with low incomes.
  • If you are a student, we hope that you rely on us for accurate information about the crisis of homelessness and ways to solve the problem.  Our newsletters and website will always contain facts you can use as a springboard for further research.
  • If you are an academician, we hope that you will help us to analyze any and all relevant available information pertaining to economic indicators, systems change, housing, social programs and poverty in America, so that our decisions are based upon strong, credible data.
  • If you are a service provider, board member or staff, we hope that you feel that you are a part of an exciting, provocative revolution of thought and practice as we craft a coordinated, technologically savvy, streamlined regional system that will provide the best outcomes for people confronting the crisis of homelessness in Greater Richmond.
  • If you are a partner in the business community, we hope that you will continue to share your support, ideas, experience, influence, expertise and volunteers as we create and implement action plans for restructuring a system of service delivery for people in crisis.
  • If you are a donor or associated with a foundation, we hope that you will continue to share your support, leadership, ideas, experience and expertise as we create and implement action plans for restructuring a system of service delivery for people in crisis.
  • If you a resident of Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield or Hanover, we hope that you share the information about homelessness and the Ten Year Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness to address housing stability in our community with your family members, colleagues, friends and co-workers.  We have every reason to believe that this regional effort will be successful.  We want everyone in the region to be aware of this community building process.
  • If you are reading this page and you live in some other part of Virginia or the United States, we hope that you will become actively involved in any efforts in your community to address the needs of people in a housing crisis.  A list of other cities across the nation that have ten year plans to end homelessness can be found at www.naeh.org.  Hopefully, a national strategy regarding the elimination of homelessness in the United States will be in place within the decade.
  • If you are formerly homeless or you have a relative or friend who is facing the crisis of homelessness, we need your perspective to "put a face" on the issue and the solutions.  Please use the information on this website and in the State of Homelessness Report to add data to your conversations with your neighbors, co-workers and friends.  There are thousands of you living and working in Greater Richmond and your real life experiences could provide the most compelling case to mobilize more people in our community to do their part to support the programs that work, while joining forces to tackle the root causes of the crisis.
