Homeward and Regional Partners Secure Substantial Grants from Virginia Housing Trust Fund

Richmond, VA – March 23, 2021 – Homeward announced today that Greater Richmond Continuum of Care (GRCoC) agencies were awarded a total of $805,729 in grants from the Virginia Housing Trust Fund. These grants are part of over $6 million awarded by Governor Northam to assist 38 permanent supportive housing, rapid re-housing, and innovative pilot projects throughout the Commonwealth. The Governor’s office announced the complete list of grants on March 22, 2021.

Grants benefiting the Richmond region will support a variety of programs, including those targeting both young people and older adults experiencing homelessness. Additional resources will support the needs of LGTBQ+ and pregnant individuals.

The significant level of grants awarded to GRCoC partner agencies highlight the importance of our region’s collaborative and coordinated network of homeless services providers. Homelessness is a complex challenge that requires coordinated and data-driven strategies to address it.

All agencies applying to the Virginia Housing Trust Fund agree to participate in the coordinated programming of the GRCoC. These grants will be crucial to help Homeward and GRCoC partner agencies further our shared mission to end homelessness.

Homeward was one of the local grantees and received $253,750 for a project that will support housing search and placement, housing stabilization case management, housing stabilization financial assistance, rent arrears, and rent assistance to homeless single and older adults.

Other GRCoC partner agencies that received grants were Commonwealth Catholic Charities, HomeAgain, St. Joseph’s Villa, and the VCU School of Social Work.
