Your Voice Matters: Voter Registration Day
Today is National Voter Registration Day, a national, nonpartisan effort to make sure eligible voters have the information and resources they need to participate in our democracy.
At Homeward, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to have their voice heard, including people experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
Voting can be one way people have a say in the decisions that shape their communities. For our neighbors experiencing homelessness, however, navigating voter registration and elections can come with additional barriers. A lack of a permanent address, uncertainty about registration status, or simply not knowing where to find reliable information can make the process more difficult.
That’s why we’re sharing a few resources to help make voting information more accessible.

- Every One Votes — Resources from the National Alliance to End Homelessness for people experiencing homelessness and organizations supporting them.

- Vote411 — A nonpartisan resource from the League of Women Voters for voter registration and election information.
- Virginia Department of Elections — Official information about voter registration, elections, voting options, and polling locations in Virginia.

You can still help make voting more accessible in our community. Share reliable voting information with a friend, family member, neighbor, or someone you serve. If you work with people experiencing homelessness or housing instability, consider making voter registration and election information available alongside other resources.
The National Low Income Housing Coalition's Our Homes, Our Votes campaign offers tools specifically designed for housing and homelessness organizations, including resources for engaging low-income renters in a nonpartisan way.
Why This Matters to Homeward
Homeward works to strengthen our region's response to homelessness by bringing people, organizations, and systems together around a shared goal: a community where everyone has a place to call home. That work is about more than connecting people to housing and services. It's also about reducing barriers and making sure people experiencing homelessness have access to the information and resources they need to participate fully in community life, and civic participation is a part of that picture.
Everyone deserves a voice. And everyone deserves access to the information they need to use it.
